The IMAP server let's You access Your mail on the mailserver, which is a smart thing when You have multiple machines, all needing to access the same mailbox.
I have chosen to install the courier-imap daemon, which should be all right for me.
As I'm starting out only using the server on my internal network, I have NOT opened anything in the firewall to allow access to the IMAP server.
